Under the supervision of the Prosecuting Attorney and Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, reviews and authorizes requests for juvenile petitions, misdemeanor and felony warrants. Conducts pretrials, status conferences, jury trials, bench trials in the district and juvenile courts, and felony preliminary examinations in the district court.
Responsibilities
- Reviews criminal warrant requests from state and local law enforcement agencies and determines whether adequate grounds exist to authorize a warrant, juvenile petition, or if additional investigation is required.
- Prepares criminal cases for trial, motions, sentencings, probation violation hearings, and other proceedings.
- Appears in court for hearings, arraignments, motions, trials, and sentencings.
- Drafts motions, briefs, and other legal documents.
- Serves as the "on-call" duty prosecutor over weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.
- Handles appeals from district court.
Requirements
- Law degree from an ABA Accredited Law School.
- License to practice law in good standing in Michigan.
Pay
$86,124 to $88,708 beginning January 1, 2027.
