About the role

Gray is seeking an Assistant Project Manager for data center projects in Columbus, OH. This role supports project management activities, including scheduling, estimating, budgeting, procurement, and subcontractor coordination. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Architecture, Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil), or Construction Management.
  • 3+ years of relevant construction experience, ideally in mission-critical/data center projects or critical environments (e.g., hospitals, casinos).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiarity with scheduling applications.
  • Energetic, self-motivated, and collaborative with a passion for professional growth.
  • Ability to lead by example, follow instructions, and work effectively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and monitor job progress using QMS program, including scheduling, estimating, and budgeting to align construction with project timelines.
  • Perform quantity take-offs, cost estimates, and bid solicitation.
  • Provide research on options and regulations as required.
  • Purchase and coordinate material deliveries to ensure optimal pricing, quality, and adherence to specifications and budget.
  • Review and approve invoices and change orders.
  • Negotiate with subcontractors and vendors to ensure full scope coverage.
  • Review vendor and subcontractor shop drawing submittals for construction as directed.
  • Relocate to job sites (if required) to gain familiarity with procurement and construction practices.
  • Attend weekly job site meetings.
  • Assist in preparing reports (e.g., monthly red files, progress analysis, schedules, billings, status reports).
  • Organize and maintain job files to ensure workflow continuity.
  • Submit verbal and written project status reports to supervisors.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, consultants, and subcontractors.
  • Enforce Gray’s safety program on site.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands/arms, reach, talk, or hear.
  • Regularly required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities include accurate near and distant vision.
  • Primarily works in a normal office environment with controlled temperature/humidity and moderate noise.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet/humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather, high places, fumes, airborne particles, extreme temperatures, electrical shock risks, explosives, and vibrations.
  • Noise levels on job sites range from moderate to loud.
  • Overtime and some travel may be required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Indirectly supervises the activities of subcontractors and field personnel.

Pay

A reasonable estimate of the current range is $60,000 to $110,000 annually, depending on skill sets, experience, training, certifications, and business needs.
