About the role

The opportunity is to join CMM Custom Homes as an Assistant Project Manager / Builder's Associate. We are seeking someone who is passionate about custom home building, enjoys the details, and wants to be part of a team that is committed to excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Project Coordination & Follow-Up
    • Support Project Managers with daily coordination, follow-up, task management, agendas, meeting notes, action items, unanswered questions, and outstanding decisions.
    • Cover messages to clients, subcontractors, vendors, designers, and internal CMM team members.
    • Organize and log notes, decisions, interactions, delivery dates, vendor updates, and project information.
  • Buildertrend / Project Documentation
    • Keep Buildertrend organized, current, and useful, including notes, logs, schedules, selections, approvals, purchase orders, photos, commitments, open approvals, and required documentation.
    • Ensure project information is clear for clients, field team, office team, and accounting.
  • Preconstruction to Build Handoff
    • Review plans, specs, selections, allowances, open items, missing information, unclear scope, and decisions that affect schedule, budget, or field execution.
    • Organize what the Project Manager and Site Superintendent need to start the job successfully.
  • Procurement, Bids & Purchase Orders
    • Bid follow-up, proposal tracking, vendor coordination, procurement, purchase orders, approvals, delivery dates, lead times, and related project documentation.
    • Aid in leveling trade pricing and tracking fixed-price budgets, allowances, and procurement-related cost information with the Project Manager and accounting team.
  • Permitting & Township Coordination
    • Proactively push permitting tasks, coordinate submittals, paperwork, pick-ups, drop-offs, and follow-up with towns, architects, engineers, and other professionals.
    • Track permit-related open items and ensure the team knows what is needed and by when.
  • Field & Site Support
    • Coordinate with Site Superintendents and field team members; support jobsite visits, documentation, photos, notes, and follow-up items.
    • Identify schedule blockers, missing materials, unanswered questions, trade coordination issues, and items needing clarification, correction, completion, or follow-up.
  • Client Experience
    • Create a strong client experience through clear communication, responsiveness, organization, and follow-through.
    • Help clients understand what decisions are needed, what is pending, what has been approved, and when selections, allowances, or decisions affect schedule or execution.
  • Team Support
    • Assist project management, preconstruction, design, finance, and field teams as needed while staying focused on the main goal: helping CMM build beautiful homes efficiently, professionally, and with a great client experience.

    What We Expect of You

    • You are organized, follow up repeatedly, communicate clearly, understand details matter, and take ownership instead of waiting to be chased.
    • You are comfortable in a fast-paced construction company, flexible where needed, able to handle pressure without drama, and curious about how homes are built.
    • You understand custom home building requires teamwork, patience, urgency, accountability, technology, and a desire to build something long-term.

    Requirements

    • Experience in residential construction, custom homes, project coordination, construction administration, estimating, architecture, design-build, or related field preferred.
    • CAD experience is a plus.
    • Interest in custom home construction, design, architecture, and the details of home building.
    • Familiarity with drawings, specs, schedules, selections, bids, purchase orders, and project documentation preferred.
    • Comfortable with online project management software; Buildertrend is a plus.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
    • Strong communication, organization, planning, prioritization, and ability to balance multiple projects and tasks.
    • Ability to work with homeowners, trades, vendors, designers, project managers, and field staff.
    • Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally to jobsites, vendors, towns, and the CMM office.
    • Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required with the right experience, attitude, and ability to learn.

    What We Offer You

    • Health, dental, vision, and life insurance with company contribution.
    • 401(k) with company match.
    • Paid time off.
    • Holidays.
    • Compensation will be based on experience and fit for the role. Based on the responsibility level we are targeting, we expect this role to fall in the approximate range of: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00.

    Who This Is For

This is not the right role if you want a narrow desk job, a simple 9-to-5, or a perfectly predictable day. It is also not for someone uncomfortable following up, asking questions, learning construction details, using technology, or working through normal custom-home pressure. This is for someone who wants to join a growing custom home builder, learn the business from the inside, bring order to complex projects, work with good people, and help build homes families will enjoy for years. We want someone optimistic, organized, detail-oriented, hardworking, and willing to be part of the team.
