Assistant Program Leader
About the role
This is a part-year position. Work hours during School Breaks (Spring, Fall, Winter, and Summer Camps) are not guaranteed and are dependent on enrollment and program needs. School Year Program runs August 17th, 2026 – June 11th, 2027.
Schedule
Monday - Friday, 2pm - 6pm with 1 additional hour weekly for team meeting. During PPS scheduled in-service days, we operate full day camps and need staff coverage for various shifts between 7:30am - 6pm.
Primary Responsibilities
- Effectively works with school-aged children at a 15 to 1 ratio, under the supervision of a teacher-qualified staff person.
- Helps support students with assignments and school homework provided by their grade-level teacher.
- Assists with homework and structured group activities and supervises free choice and recess.
- Supports the Program Coordinator and Program Leaders with lesson and activity planning and setup for the day.
- Learns and uses Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
- Serves snacks.
- Communicates with parents at drop off and pick up.
- Learns and adheres to licensing regulations for the program and school rules and requirements.
- Obtains a minimum of 20 hours of job-related training per licensing year and submit it to ORO.
- Acts as a positive role model to youth.
- Communicates any student concerns to the Program Coordinator in a timely manner.
- Arrives to work on time to prepare the classroom for the day and be ready when children begin to arrive in the program.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Dedicated, reliable, organized with a strong interest in working with children and education
- Ability to use MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents.
- Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries.
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions.
- Ability to analyze and problem-solve.
- Some experience working in an educational or camp setting preferred
- Must currently have or be able to obtain and maintain registration in the Oregon Central Background Registry (CBR).
- Food Handlers Card and CPR/First Aid Certification (obtain within 30 days of employment - cost covered by the organization).
- Experience with MS Office applications and technology.
Physical Requirements
While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, sit and stand for long periods of time, and use computer equipment. The employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, and reach with hands and arms, stand and walk, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this role include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
