Assistant Program Director

About the role

This position works with and functions under the supervision of the Campus Program Director of the Vocational Nursing Program. It combines administrative oversight with hands-on teaching (approximately half of the time).

Responsibilities

• Assist the Director with planning, developing, managing, updating, and evaluating all aspects of the program.
• Prepare data and other written materials for all required state and Board requirements, reports, proposals, self-studies, surveys, and site visits.
• Identify and obtain outside resources for the nursing program.
• Assess the ability of agencies to provide clinical experiences that meet the objectives for application of theory and clinical course objectives.
• Ensure Facility Approval Applications are completed and approved prior to initiating clinical rotations.
• Ensure student theory and clinical evaluations are completed in a timely manner by assigned faculty.
• Maintain evaluations by students, clinical site representatives, and faculty at completion of each clinical rotation.
• Assist with strategic planning and assessment of instructional initiatives to ensure program quality.
• Make continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction.
• Ensure clinical assignments, clinical rotation matrices, and calendars are completed in a timely manner.
• Ensure faculty consistently follow policies and guidelines related to student clinical rotation experiences.
• Review student learning materials on an ongoing basis.
• Ensure student records are maintained according to policies.
• Submit required program reports and forms to the Director in a timely manner.
• Stay current with new technologies and safety regulations.
• Provide advising support and planning assistance to potential students.
• Ensure all students have completed necessary documentation and meet requirements for graduation and the state licensing exam.
• Teach (either theory or clinical) approximately half of the time.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• A master’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university (including coursework in nursing, education, or administration).
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience leading a nursing program.
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a full-time faculty member in a pre- or post-licensure nursing program.
• A minimum of one (1) year of experience teaching in an online teaching and learning environment.
• A minimum of four (4) years of continuous full-time experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care in geriatrics, medical-surgical, mental health/psychiatric nursing, obstetrics, or pediatrics within the past five (5) years.
• A valid, active license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN).
• Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills.
• Action-oriented, innovative thinking, and flexibility.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work within a deadline-oriented environment.

Pay
