Assistant Professor (TT), Industrial and Organizational Psychology
Subject to Collective Bargaining Agreement requirements. The Department of Psychology at the University of Akron invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position starting in August 2027.
About the Role
We seek to assemble a cohort of teacher-scholars who will contribute to the excellence of UA through teaching, scholarship, service, and collaboration. As an urban-research university, we are particularly interested in scholars whose work addresses the pressing needs of cities and urban communities, such as health, career outlooks, employment, well-being, public safety, and civic engagement. We seek a scholar in Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology focused on teaching and researching topics that may include:
- Recruitment and selection
- Performance management
- Team processes
- Leadership
- Culture
- Well-being
- Organizational effectiveness
- Employee success
The successful candidate will lead collaborations among faculty, students, and community partners and demonstrate research activity/publication in high-quality, peer-reviewed I/O Psychology and Management journals.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate psychology courses, with a focus on I/O Psychology
- Advise and mentor graduate students in their research activities
- Engage in community-engaged teaching, research, and service to improve the condition of individuals, groups, organizations, and society
- Contribute to the department’s mission of preparing students for diverse careers in health, education, business, and research
Requirements
- Completed Ph.D. in I/O Psychology or a related field by the position start date of August 23, 2027
- Evidence of research activity and publication in high-quality, peer-reviewed I/O Psychology and Management journals
- Ability to effectively teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels

Additional Information
The Psychology Department is one of the largest academic units in the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences, with nearly 400 undergraduate majors and up to 100 graduates per year. The department offers 3 PhD programs and a standalone MA program in I/O Psychology, providing an active and engaged environment for faculty and students.
This position is exempt and affiliated with the American Association of University Professors (AAUP).
