About the role
The University of Washington Tacoma (UWT) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mathematics (Operations Research) to join the Department of Sciences and Mathematics (SAM) in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (SIAS).
Responsibilities
- Teach a variety of undergraduate mathematics courses, including precalculus, calculus, and statistics.
- Mentor undergraduate students, particularly those from diverse backgrounds, and advise mathematics majors on capstone projects.
- Engage in research in Operations Research or related fields, and contribute to the department's scholarly agenda.
- Support undergraduate research and experiential learning opportunities in the candidate's area of expertise.
- Participate in departmental and institutional committees, and contribute to shared governance.
Requirements
- An earned doctorate (or foreign equivalent) in Mathematics (or related field) from an accredited college or university by the start of the appointment.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching in the candidate’s area of expertise.
- Demonstrated record of research in the candidate's area of expertise.
- Demonstrated record of institutional or community service.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. Required
- Experience or interest to teach proof and writing-focused classes is a plus.
SkillsAbility to teach in various modalities, including in-person, online, and hybrid courses.
Benefits
- Salary range: $80,000 to $86,000 per 9-month academic year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
