Assistant Professor Tenure-Track - Health and Human Physiology

About the Role
This is a 9-month tenure-track position located on Tarleton’s main campus in Stephenville, Texas. Summer appointments are dependent upon need and funding availability. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, or as required by teaching and operational needs. The successful candidate may be assigned to teach at various campus locations or through approved instructional modalities.
The successful candidate will serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and will be expected to demonstrate excellence and innovation in teaching, maintain an impactful research program, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and actively guide doctoral students through their academic and research endeavors.
Responsibilities
- Teaching and Service (60%):
- Plan, prepare, and deliver lectures, seminars, and/or laboratory offerings to undergraduate and graduate students, including general education core curriculum.
- Develop course syllabi, select instructional materials, and design assessments such as exams, quizzes, and papers.
- Assess student performance, provide timely feedback, and evaluate learning outcomes to improve teaching practices and curriculum.
- Engage students in active learning, foster critical thinking, and provide opportunities for discussion, collaboration, and hands-on learning.
- Provide academic support and guidance through office hours, assignment feedback, and mentoring.
- Adhere to university policies, academic integrity standards, and accreditation requirements.
- Incorporate innovative teaching methods, technologies, and pedagogical approaches to enhance student engagement.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current in the field and improve teaching skills.
- Collaborate with colleagues and university staff to coordinate course offerings, share resources, and contribute to program development.
- Engage in institutional service roles, including college and division committees, advisory committees, student/faculty recruitment, and mentoring of new and part-time faculty.
- Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity (40%):
- Maintain an active research, scholarship, or creative activity agenda appropriate to the discipline.
- Make original contributions to the advancement of knowledge through scholarly publication, presentation, or exhibition.
- Demonstrate potential for external funding, national impact, or professional recognition.
Requirements
- Earned doctorate/terminal degree in the teaching discipline from an accredited university.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Knowledge and understanding of disciplinary subject matter at a level adequate for graduate-level instruction.
- Ability to interact with students, staff, and faculty in a professional, collegial, and collaborative manner.
Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience. The anticipated start date is Fall 2026.
