Assistant Professor Tenure-Track - Health and Human Physiology

Tarleton State University has four distinct campuses located in Stephenville, Fort Worth, RELLIS-Bryan, and Waco, along with a robust online community. Important Immigration Information: A Presidential proclamation issued on September 19, 2025, imposes a $100,000 fee on new H-1B petitions filed after September 21, 2025. About the Role

This is a 9-month tenure-track position located on Tarleton’s main campus in Stephenville, Texas. Summer appointment is dependent upon need and funding availability. Work hours are Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM, or as required by teaching and operational needs. The successful candidate may be assigned to teach at various campus locations or through approved instructional modalities.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence and innovation in teaching, maintain an impactful research program, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, guide doctoral students through their academic and research endeavors, and participate in institutional operations.

Responsibilities

• Teaching and Service (60%):
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lectures, seminars, and/or laboratory offerings to undergraduate and graduate students, including general education core curriculum.
  • Develop course syllabi, select instructional materials, and design assessments such as exams, quizzes, and papers.
  • Assess student performance, provide timely feedback, and evaluate learning outcomes to inform teaching practices and curriculum improvements.
  • Engage students in active learning, foster critical thinking, and provide opportunities for discussion, collaboration, and hands-on learning.
  • Provide academic support and guidance through office hours, assignment feedback, and mentoring.
  • Adhere to university policies, academic integrity standards, and accreditation requirements.
  • Incorporate innovative teaching methods, technologies, and pedagogical approaches to enhance student engagement.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current in the field and improve teaching skills.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to coordinate course offerings, share resources, and contribute to program development.
  • Participate in institutional service roles, including college/division committees, advisory committees, student/faculty recruitment, and mentoring of new faculty.
• Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity (40%):
  • Maintain an active research agenda appropriate to the academic discipline.
  • Make original contributions to knowledge or creative expression through scholarly publication, presentation, or exhibition.
  • Demonstrate potential for external funding, national impact, or professional recognition.

Requirements

• Earned doctorate/terminal degree in the teaching discipline from an accredited university.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
• Knowledge and understanding of disciplinary subject matter at a level adequate for graduate-level instruction.
• Ability to interact professionally and collaboratively with students, staff, and faculty.
