About the role
The University of Washington Information School (iSchool) seeks an Assistant Teaching Professor in Data Science. This position will be expected to teach primarily in their Informatics program, focusing on the study, design, and development of information technology for the benefit of people, organizations, society, and the environment.
Responsibilities
- Teach primarily in the Informatics program, covering areas such as Data Visualization, Artificial Intelligence, Applied Data Science, including Business Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Networking and Cloud, Privacy in Data Science, and Data Engineering.
- Engage in teaching that demonstrates how technology can be designed to minimize and mitigate its harm to people, societies, and the environment, such as through inaccessible user interfaces, exclusionary data schemas, misleading data visualizations, exploitative data collection practices, and learned discrimination in machine learning.
Requirements
- Encourages applicants from all disciplines related to data science, including social and behavioral science, healthcare, computer science and engineering, and information and library sciences.
Qualifications
- A PhD in a relevant field (such as computer science, data science, or a related field).
- Experience in teaching data science at the university level.
- Strong commitment to teaching and mentoring students.
- Ability to engage in teaching that promotes ethical considerations in data science.
