About the role

The Assistant Professor - Preclinical faculty position involves working directly with students in the simulation clinic and on scheduled times at the clinic, supervising the development of hand skills in all areas of general dentistry. The role also requires interacting positively with students, demonstrating procedures on the manikins and on student patients, adhering to CDMI protocols, and engaging in various educational activities.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with students in the simulation clinic and on scheduled times at the clinic, supervising the development of hand skills in all areas of general dentistry.
• Interact positively with students, treating all students as future colleagues.
• Be competent in instructing students and demonstrating procedures on the manikins in Sim and on student patients in the clinic at scheduled times in all areas of general dentistry.
• Be a positive role model for students in Sim and on student patients in the clinic at scheduled times in all areas of general dentistry.
• Adhere to CDMI protocols, guidelines, calibrations, and policies in the delivery of dental care in the CDMI Dental Institute.
• Have clinical experience in the use of current technologies including rotary endodontics, CAD/CAM, and lasers.
• Proactively engage and mentor pre-doctoral students in all areas of dentistry, including the active use of evidence-based technologies.
• Be an example of an active life-long learner in dentistry, through learning new techniques, materials and treatment protocols as needed by the college.
• Engage in teaching materials creation and delivery in analog and digital formats including PowerPoints and video instructions to the students in lecture and demonstrate in SIM clinic demo-along formats in all disciplines of general dentistry as requested by the Associate Dean for Preclinical Education following CDMI protocols, guidelines, calibrations, and policies for lecture delivery.
• Develop and deliver teaching instruction and facilitate student rotation groups in all phases and specialties in dentistry.
• Evaluate students in a timely manner (daily, quarterly, or weekly) as required by the college.
• Demonstrate collaborative relationships with dental specialists to model exemplary patient-centered care for students.
• Willingness to mentor students in small groups as requested by the college.
• Willingness to work collaboratively as a member of the faculty team, supporting faculty calibration and adherence to college protocols, curriculum, and teaching standards.
• Commit to other responsibilities as needed, at the request of the Associate Dean for Preclinical Education.

Requirements

• Earned a DDS/DMD degree or equivalent.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in general dentistry.
• The completion of a post-doctoral General Dentist Residency or training preferred.
• A minimal level of teaching experience at an academic institution and/or health center preferred.
• Clinical experience in the use of CAD/CAM, laser, and emerging technologies in dentistry.
• A commitment to educating and empowering students with a wide range of clinical and academic abilities.

Qualifications

• Competence in instructing students and demonstrating procedures on the manikins in Sim and on student patients in the clinic at scheduled times in all areas of general dentistry.
• Ability to communicate, listen and follow along to any communications occurring during students’ learning.
• Ability to tolerate the lights and noises associated with the dental simulation clinic.
• Ability to lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities including close and distance vision with and without magnification loupes and illumination, including looking at a computer monitor for extended periods of time.

The salary for this position is commensurate with experience.

Schedule

The schedule for this position is typically Monday through Friday, with some weekend and evening hours required for clinical rotations and teaching sessions.
