Position: 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor of Social Work beginning August 2027 at Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM).

About the Role

The Department of Social Work and Anthropology is expanding its BSW Program to include an online option. Candidates must be willing to teach both online and in-person courses and demonstrate excellence in scholarship, research, undergraduate teaching, and service. A commitment to social justice, social work education, and promoting student-faculty research is essential.

AUM is committed to building and sustaining an inclusive and equitable working and learning environment. The BSW program is accredited by CSWE and is one of the fastest-growing majors on campus. It educates social workers to be ethical and competent practitioners who advocate for social, environmental, and economic justice across all system levels using a generalist perspective within a person-in-environment context.

The Department of Social Work and Anthropology includes nine full-time faculty lines and offers majors in Social Work and Anthropology, minors in Anthropology, Child Advocacy Studies, and Social Work, as well as interdisciplinary certificates in Gerontology and Museum Studies and Public Humanities.

Responsibilities

  • Teach core and elective undergraduate Social Work courses (online and in-person).
  • Maintain a productive research agenda, including publishing and presenting in professional venues.
  • Provide professional advising for online and on-campus students.
  • Engage in recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Assist with maintaining the program’s CSWE accreditation.
  • Contribute to the service mission of the university.

Requirements

  • DSW or PhD in Social Work and an MSW from a CSWE-accredited program with at least two years of post-MSW practice.
  • Candidates with an MSW from a CSWE-accredited program, two years of full-time post-MSW experience, and a PhD in a related field may also be considered.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective, collaborative relationships with faculty and administration.
  • A record of professional activities related to social work practice and education.
  • Online teaching experience preferred.
