About the Role

The Psychology Department at Rhodes College invites applications for an assistant professor position beginning Fall of 2027. This position contributes to the interdisciplinary Neuroscience program, with teaching commitments split between Psychology and Neuroscience. Area of specialization within neuroscience is open, although preference will be given to candidates with training in cognitive, clinical, or developmental neuroscience.

Responsibilities

  • Teach five courses/labs per year (labs count as a full teaching involvement), including:
    • An upper-level neuroscience course and lab in the applicant’s area of expertise
    • Introductory courses in both psychology and neuroscience
  • Demonstrate a firm commitment to teaching and research at a liberal arts college
  • Foster an inclusive learning environment where students from diverse perspectives, beliefs, and backgrounds engage in civil and respectful dialogue

Requirements

  • Completed Ph.D. in psychology, neuroscience, or an appropriate subdiscipline by July 2027

Research Support

  • Access to research equipment, including a wireless EEG system, an eye tracker, and an NSF-funded state-of-the-art motion capture system
  • Start-up funds and lab space
  • Additional research support through summer research funds and travel funds
  • Opportunities for collaborative research with:
    • St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
    • University of Memphis
    • University of Tennessee Medical School
    • Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital
