About the role

The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position (9-month annual support) at the assistant professor level with a specialization in coastal marine ecology in the Department of Marine Biology based at the UAF main campus (Troth Yeddha’ campus) in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Responsibilities

  • Lead vigorous Alaska-based research programs that involve the mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in areas of their expertise.
  • Make use of the coastal lab, the Kasitsna Bay Lab in Kachemak Bay, AK, for their research and teaching.
  • Be certified scientific divers with an interest in contributing to the Scientific Diving Program through teaching and leadership roles within the program.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in marine biology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field.
  • Postdoctoral research experience, successful proposal funding, and a peer-reviewed publication record are preferred.
  • A strong scientific diving record.
  • Experience teaching at the university level and in mentoring students.
  • A strong research and publication record.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in English.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria.

Skills

  • Strong scientific and academic backgrounds.
  • Commitment to contributing to academic and research excellence at UAF.
