About the role

The Department of Oceanography in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor with a 9-month academic appointment starting August 1, 2027. The successful candidate will conduct independent research, teach, advise students, and engage in departmental and college activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain an externally-funded research program
  • Teach courses in Biological Oceanography at both graduate and undergraduate levels
  • Advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students
  • Participate in departmental and college activities
  • Serve the discipline of oceanography

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Oceanography or related field by the start date
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a broad interest in Biological Oceanography, including but not limited to studies on marine organism influence on global biogeochemical cycles, phytoplankton ecology and biogeography, blue economy (e.g., bioprospecting), life in extreme environments, and carbon sequestration. Preference will be given to candidates who can connect multiple trophic levels.
