Tenure-Track: Assistant Professor in Marine Biology

About the Role

The Department of Marine Biology (MARB) in the College of Marine Sciences & Maritime Studies at Texas A&M University, Galveston campus, invites applications for one full-time, tenure-track faculty position with a 9-month academic appointment beginning August 1, 2027. This is a broad search for a dynamic marine biologist whose research advances understanding of marine organisms, habitats, or ecosystems at any spatial, temporal, or organizational scale, including molecular, cellular, physiological, organismal, population, community, ecosystem, seascape, ocean-basin, or global perspectives.

Areas of Interest

Applicants from all subdisciplines of marine biology are encouraged to apply. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

• Disturbance and disease ecology
• Benthic pollution and emerging contaminants
• Species management (e.g., birds, corals, endangered species)
• Ecosystem management and restoration
• Soundscapes

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain a rigorous, sustainable, externally funded research program with national and international impact
• Foster interdisciplinary collaborations with local, regional, national, or international science, management, conservation, industry, education, and/or stakeholder communities
• Contribute to undergraduate and graduate education by teaching existing courses and/or developing innovative offerings aligned with the candidate's expertise and departmental needs
• Mentor undergraduate research interns and graduate students
• Contribute to a learning environment that prepares students for careers in research, conservation, management, education, policy, and the broader blue economy
• Contribute service to the department, college, university, profession, and broader community, which may include committee participation, engagement with professional societies, student mentoring and career-development activities, outreach to marine-science stakeholders, and participation in programs that strengthen the visibility and impact of marine biology at Texas A&M University at Galveston

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in marine biology, biology, ecology, evolution, oceanography, environmental science, fisheries science, or a related field
• Evidence of research productivity
• Potential for extramural funding
• Commitment to effective teaching and mentorship
• Capacity to contribute collegially to an interdisciplinary academic community

Preferred Qualifications

• Postdoctoral or equivalent professional research experience
