About the role

The Department of Kinesiology in the Conway Medical Center College of Health and Human Performance at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for two full‑time, 9‑month, tenure‑track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2027. We seek teacher‑scholars committed to delivering engaging academic experiences that promote student success through innovative teaching, undergraduate mentorship, and active learning. Successful candidates will establish and maintain active research agendas, engage students in meaningful scholarly experiences (including research and conference presentations), and support the continued accreditation of the Strength and Conditioning concentration.

The department seeks candidates whose teaching and research expertise align with one or more of the following areas: Strength and Conditioning, Human Performance, Athletic Performance, Sport Performance, Sport Science, Applied Sport Science, and/or Performance Science. Candidates with expertise spanning more than one area of the Exercise and Sport Science curriculum or related areas in the Department of Kinesiology are especially encouraged to apply.

Candidates must have an earned doctorate in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a closely related field by the time of appointment (ABD candidates will be considered) and exhibit strong potential for excellence in teaching. Successful candidates will be qualified to teach in both classroom and laboratory settings and provide high‑quality instruction in undergraduate Exercise and Sport Science courses; teaching assignments will align with departmental needs and the candidate’s area of expertise. Opportunities to teach graduate courses may arise as departmental programs evolve.

The Department of Kinesiology is committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service, engaging students through active learning, undergraduate research, internships, and community partnerships. The department fosters a collaborative environment that supports faculty success as teacher‑scholars through shared laboratory facilities and equipment, interdisciplinary partnerships, and institutional resources that promote professional growth. Seven specialized laboratories, including a new motion capture lab, support research in motor behavior, exercise physiology, nutrition, and sport psychology. The department recently received initial accreditation of its Strength and Conditioning concentration through the Council on Accreditation of Strength and Conditioning Education (CASCE), and faculty may contribute to its continued success and accreditation efforts while helping shape future growth through the development of graduate courses and potential graduate degree programs.
