Assistant Professor of Computer Science & Information Technology
About the role
The Hood College Department of Computer Science & Information Technology invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning January 2027 or August 2027 under the general direction of the Department Chair.
Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology in areas including, but not limited to, computer architecture, computer organization and design, and digital logic. Additional teaching experience in artificial intelligence, quantum computing, or cybersecurity is desirable.
Utilize the College’s learning management system as an instructional platform for all classes.
Advise undergraduate and graduate students.
Participate in ongoing professional development relevant to teaching.
Evaluate students' learning styles and individual characteristics to tailor instruction and promote class engagement.
Plan course syllabus and assignments to meet Hood College and departmental curriculum requirements, utilizing various teaching techniques.
Attend to and comply with ABET standards required for accreditation.
Qualifications
Earned doctorate in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, or closely related field by the time of appointment required.
Strong organizational skills and a proven ability to work collaboratively with partners across campus.
Professional experience in industry or government is desirable.
Technology Skills: Proficient in MS Office tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), e-mail and Internet. Ability to learn new applications quickly including organization-wide information systems and department-specific software applications.
Language Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively provide information and positively respond to questions from both external and internal customers both in person and by phone. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Mathematical Skills: Proficient with statistical and financial concepts. Must have the ability to apply those concepts to tracking, projections, goal setting and interpreting reports. Must be able to draw conclusions from reports and make cost effective decisions regarding programs.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a number of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to work independently and as a member of a group in developing and executing project plans. Ability to work in theoretical arena and apply logic as appropriate.
