Department context
The Electrical, Computer, & Biomedical Engineering (ECBE) Department combines a flexible liberal arts curriculum with rigorous, ABET-accredited engineering coursework. Defining features include small classes and labs taught directly by faculty, hands-on projects throughout the curriculum, exceptional study abroad options, and close collaboration between students and faculty on high-impact research projects. The department traces its origins to 1902 when Charles Proteus Steinmetz established the Department of Electrical Engineering; Computer Engineering was added in 1997, and the department assumed its present form in 2017 through a merger with the Biomedical Engineering program. Currently, 15 full-time faculty members serve a student body of roughly 200.
Teaching load
Equivalent of five courses in the first year, and six courses per year thereafter. Lab sections count as half a course each, and senior capstone supervision counts as a quarter course per student.
