Assistant Professor, Computer Engineering

About the role

The Computer Engineering Department at San José State University is pleased to announce a search for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in January or August 2027.

Responsibilities

• Teach, supervise, and advise students in both undergraduate and graduate programs.
• Establish a research program related to his/her field of interest.
• Participate in shared governance, usually in department, college, and university committees and other service assignments.
• Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
• Demonstrate awareness and experience in understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advising.

Requirements

• A doctorate in Computer/Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a closely related field by the start of the appointment.
• A strong commitment and demonstration of potential to teaching excellence, dedication to continued professional development and scholarship, and a broad knowledge of computer/software engineering.
• Demonstrated ability in written and oral use of the English language.
• An awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.

Anticipated hiring academic year annual salary range: $106,000 - $126,000.
