About the role
The Division of Trauma & Acute Care Surgery and Surgical Critical Care at the University of Miami, Leonard Miller School of Medicine is seeking a fellowship-trained surgeon to join the trauma surgery team. The division is a strong multidisciplinary group providing high-quality clinical care and access to cutting-edge clinical trials.
Responsibilities
- Participate in clinical and educational activities for the Divisions of Trauma & Acute Care Surgery and Surgical Critical Care and the Department of Surgery.
- Provide surgical services, including OR and critical care, across Trauma Centers in the Jackson Memorial Hospital Health System and University of Miami Hospital System (UMH) under the University of Miami Medical Group (UMMG).
- Educate medical students, surgery residents and fellows, nurses, and other medical personnel at JMH and UMH facilities.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the Divisions of Trauma, Acute Care Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, Burns, and Surgical Nutrition Support.
- Support the surgical nutrition service periodically.
- Prepare presentations and publish research findings.
- Handle billing of clinical services and ensure timely, accurate documentation in patient medical records according to JMH and University of Miami policies.
- Address billing discrepancies and documentation issues promptly.
- Adhere to practices outlined in the medical Faculty and UMMG Manuals.
- Attend weekly divisional meetings, Departmental Faculty Meetings, and Grand Rounds.
- Provide Telemedicine assistance in the OR, participate in telemedicine forum discussions, training, and weekly International Trauma Grand Rounds.
- Respond to email inquiries regarding urgent issues.
- Travel to meet contractual obligations of the Division of Trauma.
- Provide ATLS training to students, staff, residents, fellows, and faculty as needed.
- Practice primarily at JMH-South campus.
Requirements
- M.D. degree.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid DEA Registration and Florida Medical License.
- 0–5 years of post-fellowship clinical experience in Trauma Surgery and/or Critical Care Surgery preferred.
- Strong commitment to patient care, education, and clinical research.
Skills
- Thorough knowledge of professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques.
- Knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including proper telephone etiquette.
- Ability to perform duties in a tactful and professional manner.
- Fluency in Spanish is greatly valued due to local and regional demographics.
- Keen interest in and concern for the needs of trauma surgery patients and related surgical conditions.
