About the Role

The Department of Psychology at Binghamton University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Clinical Science Ph.D. Program. This role focuses on research related to schizophrenia and other severe mental illnesses (SMI). The program holds dual accreditation from PCSAS and the APA Commission on Accreditation and is a member of the Academy of Psychological Clinical Science.

We seek a clinical scientist whose research advances mechanistic understanding of psychotic and SMI, including etiology, assessment development, and intervention research. Methodological approaches may include cognitive, neural, psychophysiological, computational, social, or psychosocial methods. Candidates are encouraged to leverage the Brain and Body Imaging Research Center (BBIRC), a 3T Siemens MAGNETOM Prisma facility, or collaborate with the Greater Binghamton Health Center (GBHC) and the OnTrackNY early-psychosis program. The Department values scholarship that bridges scientific rigor with community impact.

The Psychology Department includes 48 faculty members across three doctoral programs (Behavioral Neuroscience, Clinical Science, and Cognitive and Brain Sciences) and eight teaching faculty with expertise in developmental, school, forensic, and social psychology. Responsibilities

• Conduct research on schizophrenia and other severe mental illnesses (SMI), focusing on mechanistic understanding, including etiology, assessment development, and intervention research.
• Utilize diverse methodological approaches (e.g., cognitive, neural, psychophysiological, computational, social, or psychosocial).
• Collaborate with campus resources such as the Brain and Body Imaging Research Center (BBIRC), Greater Binghamton Health Center (GBHC), and OnTrackNY early-psychosis program.
• Teach undergraduate or graduate courses (preferred).
• Contribute to the department’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and collegiality.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology or a related discipline by August 16, 2027.
• An active program of research demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and/or extramural funding.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience teaching undergraduate or graduate courses.
• Eligibility for New York State licensure.
