The Department of Internal Medicine is a top-tier department with world-renowned faculty and staff. The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology supports the University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC), West Chester Hospital (WCH), University of Cincinnati Cancer Center (UCCC), and the Cincinnati Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The Division collaborates with the BMT program, an Experimental Therapeutics program, a Hemophilia Center, a Sickle Cell Disease Center, and supports the 9 clinical centers of excellence of the UC Cancer Center. Research labs provide venues for translational studies, with additional resources available in immunobiology, laboratory medicine, transfusion medicine, cell mediated therapy, and cancer biology at the University of Cincinnati Medical College, the Hoxworth Blood Center, and the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

This is a clinical academic mission position, with support for research, teaching, and administration. The role is supported by dedicated administrative staff and advanced practice providers. Compensation is highly competitive with the opportunity for incentives based on clinical and/or academic productivity.

Responsibilities

• Engaging in fellow and resident teaching, including precepting fellow clinics, leading resident and fellow didactic lectures as part of inpatient rounding, and leading journal club topics for fellows and residents
• Participating in or initiating research projects, including participating in ongoing clinical trials, initiating new clinical trials through federal or industry means, and mentoring fellows in clinical research projects and the submission of research materials to national conferences and peer-reviewed journals
• Providing patient care in an adult gastroenterology practice, inclusive of 6+ weeks of inpatient services, 4-6 weeks annually of call coverage, and appropriate endoscopy time and outpatient clinical time (schedule derived based on a mix of inpatient, outpatient, and procedural time)
• Providing patient care in an adult hepatology practice, including 5 half-day clinics weekly, an equal share of inpatient coverage (depends on total members in group practice), and 2-3 half-days of endoscopy procedures
• Contributing to clinical care for liver transplant patients and general hepatology patients as a member of the adult hepatologist group
• Fully participating in the liver transplant program, including mandatory attendance at weekly transplant meetings

Requirements

• Medical Degree (MD or DO)
• Completion of a 3-year Internal Medicine Residency
• Completion of a 1-year Hepatology or Transplant Hepatology Fellowship
• Ohio Medical License
