Assistant Professor- Musical Theatre

Position Summary

Austin Peay State University Department of Theatre and Dance seeks a qualified Musical Theatre candidate to begin August 2024. The full-time faculty position will be tenure-track at the level of Assistant Professor.

About the Role

The Theatre and Dance program at Austin Peay State University offers a BFA with concentrations in Acting, Dance, Design, Musical Theatre, and Stage Management, and a BA with concentrations in Theatre and Dance. Minors in Theatre and Dance are popular choices for many students.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses in Musical Theatre within the Theatre and Dance curriculum.
• Develop and maintain a vibrant and engaging curriculum that reflects current best practices in the field.
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary projects and initiatives that support the mission of the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts.
• Participate in departmental and university committees as needed.
• Engage in scholarly activities such as research, publication, and presentation.
• Perform in and direct productions as part of the department's artistic programming.

Requirements

• A terminal degree in Theatre, Music Theatre, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Proven teaching experience at the college level.
• Experience in directing musical theatre productions.
• Strong performance skills in musical theatre.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

• Passion for teaching and mentoring students.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Experience with technology and digital media in the classroom.

Skills

• Proficiency in musical theatre performance and direction.
• Knowledge of contemporary theatre pedagogy.
• Ability to teach a variety of courses including acting, dance, design, and stage management.
• Experience with educational technology and digital tools.
