Assistant Professor - Modern Chinese Culture

About the Role
The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Michigan invites applications for a tenure-track position in modern Chinese culture, beginning August 25, 2027. This is a university-year appointment at the assistant professor level. Applicants with interdisciplinary teaching and research interests in modern Chinese culture—including global and comparative contexts from the late nineteenth through the twenty-first century—are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will teach a range of courses in modern Chinese culture, from introductory undergraduate lecture courses through graduate seminars, supervise doctoral dissertations, and participate in departmental programs as well as area studies initiatives within the larger university community.
