About the role

The Department of Kinesiology at California State University, Fullerton invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the areas of Motor Control, Motor Learning, or related disciplines with an appointment to begin Fall 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach introductory and core courses in the discipline, including Human Motor Control and Learning, Motor Control and Movement Dysfunction, Physical Activity and The Aging Process, Functional Performance Assessment and Programming for Older Adults, and Advanced Study in Human Motor Control and Learning.
  • Contribute to and participate in the life and development of the department, advise students, serve on committees, and engage in the broader university and disciplinary communities.
  • Secure external funding and engage in scholarly work commensurate with the requirements for tenure.

Requirements

  • Earned doctorate in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Neuroscience, or a related field by the time of appointment.
  • A strong foundation/training in Motor Control and/or Motor Learning theories and research techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability/potential to provide high-quality undergraduate and graduate education.
  • Demonstrated ability/potential to work with a diverse student population, including first-generation college students.
  • Record of scholarship in their respective area of specialization.
  • A demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion in teaching, scholarship, and/or service.

Qualifications

  • Expertise in balance and postural control, fall prevention, or neuromotor rehabilitation, particularly in aging populations.
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to secure external funding.
  • Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration across kinesiology, aging science, gerontology, physical therapy, or public health.
  • Familiarity/experience with high-impact teaching practices (such as service-learning or community-based learning).

Skills

  • Ability to develop and deliver effective educational programs.
  • Proficiency in research methodologies and data analysis.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Pay

The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $6,221 to $13,224 monthly (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range is $6,803 to $6,939 per month ($81,636 to $83,268, annually).
