About the role

The Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, in the Dunlop School of Biological Sciences of the University of California, Irvine, is seeking a qualified Assistant Professor In-Residence with a strong background in cellular metabolism and lipid biology.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research in cellular metabolism and lipid biology, with a focus on quantitative metabolic and lipid trafficking methods
  • Collaborate with other research teams
  • Demonstrate scholarly productivity through publications and securing research funding
  • Contribute to teaching at the doctoral, postdoctoral, master’s, and undergraduate levels
  • Participate in university and public service as a member of the Academic Senate

Requirements

  • Experience with quantitative metabolic and lipid trafficking methods
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with research teams
  • Preference for candidates with ongoing research funding from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, or foundations
  • Strong research publication track record
  • Excellence in research or creative achievement, teaching, and service

About the department

Research in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry (MBB) strives to uncover the molecular mechanisms that underlie fundamental biological processes. Faculty research interests include:

  • Structure and synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids
  • Gene organization and regulation
  • Cell signaling and metabolism
  • Immunology and host-pathogen interactions
  • Genetics, microbiology, and virology

The department trains doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows and hosts two master’s degree programs: Biotechnology and Biotechnology Management. Faculty also teach and mentor undergraduate students as part of the Dunlop School of Biological Sciences.

Pay

$93,500 - $121,400
