Assistant Professor in Psychology - Marriage & Family Therapy

About the Role

This tenure-track position carries responsibilities in teaching (primarily graduate courses and potential undergraduate courses), supervising graduate trainees, developing a successful program of research or scholarly activity, seeking external funding, and service (supporting the administrative and advising needs of the Marriage & Family Therapy program). The position involves coordinating the on-campus training clinic and off-campus traineeship program, with opportunities for developing program leadership. Responsibilities

• Teach graduate courses and, as needed, undergraduate courses in the Marriage & Family Therapy program.
• Supervise graduate trainees in clinical and academic settings.
• Develop and maintain a successful program of research or scholarly activity.
• Seek external funding to support research and program initiatives.
• Provide service to the program, department, and university, including administrative and advising support.
• Coordinate and contribute to the on-campus training clinic and off-campus traineeship program.
• Develop teaching practices that promote equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Requirements

• Doctorate degree from a COAMFTE-accredited Marriage & Family Therapy Program or an accredited Counseling or Clinical Psychology program. Candidates nearing completion of the degree may be considered, but all requirements must be met by the start date of the position.
• CA licensure, or intention to obtain it, as a Marriage and Family Therapist, Psychologist, or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. Licensure must be achieved by the end of the third year for continued employment.
• Meet, or intend to meet, CA Board of Behavioral Sciences MFT supervisor qualifications. These qualifications must be met by the end of the third year for continued employment.
• Experience in undergraduate and/or graduate instruction.
• A record of research and/or scholarly activities.

Pay

Anticipated hiring range: $74,652 - $89,772 per year.

Schedule

Position starts: August 2027. Faculty assignments include in-person duties that require an on-campus presence. All work must be performed within the State of California.

About the Department

The Marriage & Family Therapy Program is a three-year program that meets the educational requirements for the Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) license as specified in California State law. The program emphasizes skill acquisition through laboratory courses, on-campus practica in the Counseling Training Clinic, and off-campus traineeships. The program is part of the Psychology Department, which includes 15 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, 24 lecturers, and two office staff members. The department offers a BA in Psychology, an MA with options in Psychological Science and School Psychology, and the MS in Marriage & Family Therapy. The department values a collaborative and collegial environment, with new faculty receiving support through mentoring, professional development opportunities, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
