Assistant Professor in Psychology – Marriage & Family Therapy

The Department of Psychology at California State University, Chico is seeking applicants for an Assistant Professor position to primarily teach in our COAMFTE-accredited, master's-level Marriage & Family Therapy (MFT) program. This is a tenure-track, nine-month academic year position anticipated to begin in August 2027. Initial review of applications will begin October 12, 2026, and the position will remain open until filled. The Marriage & Family Therapy Program is a three-year program that provides an integrated course of study meeting the educational requirements for Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) licensure in California. Skill acquisition is emphasized through a strong core of introductory laboratory courses and on-campus practica in our Counseling Training Clinic, culminating in an off-campus traineeship at a local agency. The MFT program is housed within Chico State's Department of Psychology, which offers a BA in Psychology, an MA with options in Psychological Science and School Psychology, and an MS in Marriage & Family Therapy. The department values a collaborative and collegial environment in which faculty support one another's teaching, scholarship, and service. New faculty receive support through mentoring, professional development opportunities, and opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration across the university. This tenure-track position includes responsibilities in teaching, scholarship, and service. Teaching responsibilities will primarily include graduate MFT courses and supervision of graduate trainees, with the potential to teach undergraduate courses as departmental needs arise. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a program of research or scholarly activity, seek external funding as appropriate, and contribute to the administrative and advising needs of the MFT program. The position will join a team of faculty and staff coordinating the on-campus training clinic and off-campus traineeship program, with opportunities for developing program leadership. Minimum QualificationsThe minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is a doctorate degree from a COAMFTE-accredited Marriage & Family Therapy program or an accredited Counseling or Clinical Psychology program. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate may be considered; however, all requirements for conferral of the degree must be met no later than the start date of the position. Candidates must also have:• California licensure, or intention to obtain it, as a Marriage and Family Therapist, Psychologist, or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. Licensure must be achieved by the end of the third year for continued employment.• Met, or intend to meet, California Board of Behavioral Sciences MFT supervisor qualifications. Supervisor qualifications must be met by the end of the third year for continued employment.• Experience in undergraduate and/or graduate instruction.• A record of research and/or scholarly activities.
