About the role

The Department of Mathematical Sciences in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for one tenure-track Assistant Professor line in the mathematical sciences to start in August 2027. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment. The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to conduct high-impact research in computational and applied mathematics or a closely related field. Additionally, we seek candidates who have an enthusiasm for teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and for supervising graduate and undergraduate research. An exceptional candidate may be considered for appointment to the Lawrence Jesser Toll, Jr. Endowed Chair in Mathematical Sciences, which is designed to support the academic and professional development of the holder and assist in building a nationally competitive mathematical sciences program. This is an in-person position. Most university classes are offered face-to-face, and extensive in-person engagement in such activities as office hours, student advising, and departmental, college, and university committee meetings is essential to advancing student success and departmental effectiveness. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers degrees with focuses on applied math, pure math and statistics. Courses prepare students for careers in secondary education, actuarial science and industry and graduate school. Students will receive a broad, interdisciplinary education, highlighting the utility and value of mathematics in many careers and disciplines. Learn more at math.uark.edu.
