Assistant Professor, Emergency Medical Technologies

About the Role

The Assistant Professor in Emergency Medical Technologies is primarily responsible for teaching a variety of courses in the discipline, specifically within the paramedic academy. The selected candidate must collaborate with industry leaders to maintain the relevance of Career Technical Education (CTE) courses.

Pay

Starting salary range: $77,011.42 – $122,363.70 annually. Salary placement is determined by academic training, teaching experience, and the College’s regular salary schedule, with a maximum of step 8 for new faculty. For estimates, visit Palomar College’s salary page.

Requirements

Must meet all qualifications listed under 1) and 3) below, plus one of the sets under a) or b):

• Any bachelor’s degree or higher and two years of professional experience in an allied health field.
• Any associate degree and six years of professional experience in an allied health field.
• A combination of education and experience equivalent to the above.

If you do not possess the specific minimum qualifications, including degrees not yet awarded, you must complete and attach the Application for Equivalency form.

Qualified by education and experience with at least 40 hours of documented teaching methodology instruction in methods, materials, and evaluation of instruction by the time of appointment. Possession of one of the following certificates meets this requirement:

• California State Fire Marshal (CSFM) “Fire Instructor 1A and 1B”
• National Fire Academy (NFA) “Fire Service Instructional Methodology” course
• National Association of EMS Educators Level 1 course

Knowledgeable in the course content of the January 2009 United States Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards (DOT HS 811 077 E).

Only coursework completed at, and degrees awarded by, accredited institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education will be considered. For foreign transcripts, a U.S. equivalency evaluation and course-by-course analysis by a credentials evaluation service (e.g., NACES or AICE) is required.

Note: For professional experience, a “year” is defined as 40 hours per week for 10 months. Professional experience includes Paramedic experience or higher-level experience (e.g., Nursing or Physician).
