ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (DS13) Department of Communication

Key Responsibilities

• Preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials, workshops, and seminars.
• Developing curricula and course material that can be used across a number of platforms.
• Collaborating with other academics and lecturers to improve teaching methods and expand knowledge base.
• Setting and grading assignments, tests, exams and other types of assessment.
• Keeping accurate records of course files every semester.
• Conducting research, and writing papers, proposals, journal articles, and books.
• Attending and participating in meetings, conferences, and other events in and outside of the institution.
• Participating in training opportunities and initiatives at the institution.
• Providing support to students and other colleagues.
• Staying current by reading widely and producing published work in the field.
• Supervising internship students, if assigned.
• Monitoring student’s association co-curricular activities, if assigned.
• Completing any administrative task assigned by Head of Department.
• Attend and participate in any workshops, events and trainings organized by the Kulliyyah.

Minimum Qualifications

• A Ph.D. in Communication Studies/Mass Communication
• At least one year teaching experience
• Bachelor’s Degree or Masters must be in Communication or related areas
• Published work in good communication journals would be advantageous

• Flexibility, resilience, and willingness to work long hours
• Strong interpersonal, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills
• Able to work well in a team, and prioritize department needs,
• Able to multi-task and follow deadlines in any tasks given.

Industry Experience

• Industry experience in Journalism or Broadcasting is an added advantage

Language Qualifications

• All candidates must have obtained:
• Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English Language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level OR equivalent qualification recognized by the Government (for Malaysian citizens).
• IELTS Band 6 / MUET Band 4.
• Candidate without any of these qualification will be required to sit for the IIUM English Language Proficiency Test.
