About This Job

Northwestern State University's Department of New Media, Journalism, and Communication Arts invites applications for a full-time tenure-track communication faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The start date for this position is August I, 2026.

Job Duties And Other Information

  • Plans and teaches courses as assigned
  • Maintains flexibility and willingness to teach in a variety of environments
  • Prepares syllabi, instructional materials, coordinates lectures, tests, and evaluates
  • Maintains the highest possible standards of classroom instruction
  • Regularly keeps office hours and maintains a willingness to be receptive to students both in person and through email
  • Actively provides services to the department and to the university
  • Demonstrates willingness to learn and enhance professional skills through regular professional development and other activities appropriate to higher education faculty
  • Stays updated on new information and developments in the field of instruction
  • Affords assistance with curriculum development
  • Participates actively in the department's recruiting efforts
  • Advises students
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Minimum Qualifications

  • The successful candidate will be a generalist able to teach both introductory courses and upper-level courses.
  • At least a master's degree in communication and related field, plus teaching experience required.
  • ABD considered, but degree required by time of hire
  • PhD in Media/Communication Studies or a related field (ABD may be considered)
  • Note: Candidates with a master's degree and 10+ years of industry experience may be considered
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to teaching in a multicultural environment with students from diverse backgrounds and learning styles
  • Experience in academic advising
