Assistant Professor, Department of Criminal Justice (COURTS)

About the role

The Department of Criminal Justice at California State University, Fullerton invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position starting in Fall 2027. The ideal candidate will specialize in courts and judicial processes, bridging theoretical knowledge with practical application.

Responsibilities

• Teach a core course on criminal courts and a breadth requirement for criminal justice students.
• Create new court-related courses in specialized areas such as appellate advocacy, procedural justice, judicial decision-making, jurors and juries, or international courts.
• Engage in high-impact practices for students, such as Moot Court, Mock Trial, and/or service-learning courses.
• Contribute to curricular growth and development of the criminal justice major.
• Engage in scholarly research and creative discovery.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in legal studies, law and society, sociology, psychology, or related field at the time of appointment.
• Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching a diverse undergraduate student population, including first-generation college students, low-socioeconomic students, and historically minoritized students.
• Potential for / demonstrated ability to teach criminal courts.
• Potential for / demonstrated ability to contribute to curricular growth/development of the criminal justice major.
• Potential for / demonstrated ability to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
• A strong record of, or potential to produce, scholarly publications.
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.

Pay

The anticipated hiring range is $6,990 to $7,130 per month. Salary offered is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
