Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice

About the role

The successful candidate will bring with them expertise or an openness to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all of our students. They will teach undergraduate courses in criminal justice ethics, theories of crime, research methods in criminal justice, criminal law and the courts, victimology, restorative justice, and criminal law. Teaching assignments may include courses at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, and/or online.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate courses in criminal justice ethics, theories of crime, research methods in criminal justice, criminal law and the courts, victimology, restorative justice, and criminal law.
• Assist the department with administrative and/or committee work.
• Affirmatively contribute to the department’s commitment to diversity and excellence through teaching, mentoring, research, or community service.
• Perform scholarly research and university service.
• Assume campus-wide committee responsibilities.

Requirements

Candidate must expect to have an earned doctorate in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a related field. An ABD will be considered, but the degree must be completed by the effective date of the appointment. Candidates with successful teaching experience at the university level are preferred. Candidates should demonstrate experience in teaching, mentoring, research, or community service that has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate a record of scholarly activity, including publications and presentations at professional conferences (including, but not limited to ASC, ACJS, or ASA).

Qualifications

• Doctorate in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a related field.
• Experience in teaching, mentoring, research, or community service that prepares you to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence.
• Record of scholarly activity, including publications and presentations at professional conferences.
