About the role
The University of Amsterdam's Department of Media Studies within the Archival & Information Studies program invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Critical Archival Studies. This position aligns with the 'Tradition in Transition' sector plan for the Humanities.
Responsibilities
- Conduct independent research in the field of critical archival studies
- Develop and lead interdisciplinary projects that critically engage with archives and their role in society
- Teach courses in archival studies and related fields at both undergraduate and graduate levels
- Participate in departmental and university-wide initiatives related to archival studies
Requirements
- A PhD in a relevant field (preferably in history, cultural studies, or a related discipline)
- Proven track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at conferences
- Experience in teaching archival studies and related subjects
- Strong commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and critical engagement with archival practices
Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills in English and Dutch
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Interest in contributing to the development of the department's research agenda
Skills
- Expertise in digital humanities and archival theory
- Knowledge of archival management and preservation practices
- Ability to work with diverse archival collections and communities
