About the Role

The Department of Criminal Justice at New Mexico State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning August 16, 2027. This is an external search open to all applicants.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 9 credit hours per semester of undergraduate and graduate courses, both online and on-campus, from existing curriculum and new courses in the applicant’s specialty area.
  • Advise and mentor students.
  • Conduct scholarship and research.
  • Participate in university and community service.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a closely related discipline by August 15, 2027. ABDs may apply, but the degree must be completed by the start of employment. A J.D. alone is not sufficient.
  • Research specialty in criminology and criminal justice, or ability to complement existing faculty expertise.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to teach a variety of criminal justice courses, including but not limited to quantitative research methods, policing, or cyber security/criminology at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
  • Experience teaching in areas that enhance or complement current departmental strengths.
  • Potential for extramural funding.

Working Conditions

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office environment.
  • No or very limited physical effort required; occasional handling of objects up to 10 pounds.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
