About

Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science is located in the Watts-Willowbrook area of south Los Angeles and was founded in 1966 in response to the Watts uprising. The university was established to address inadequate medical care in the region and to provide equitable medical education opportunities for under-represented students. CDU offers the only historically black Doctor of Medicine program west of the Mississippi and is deeply invested in the local and regional community. The university collaborates with various partnerships and programs to provide equitable healthcare resources across multiple south Los Angeles neighborhoods.

Responsibilities

• Provides operational and academic leadership
• Maintains confidential student files and records
• Responds to student concerns/problems and refers to appropriate resources
• Maintains processes for tracking, monitoring, and recording student completion and/or program progress
• Makes decisions about NCLEX progression and develops corrective plans
• Serves as a liaison between the Office of the Dean and other departments
• Supports the Director in implementing program policies and procedures
• Assists in preparing BRN and accreditation documentation
• Coordinates clinical placements and site evaluations
• Assists in monitoring student progression and program outcomes
• Supervises assigned faculty and staff
• Advocates for the college and recommends necessary resources
• Develops and cultivates community partners to further program goals

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in nursing required
• Active California Registered Nurse license
• Master’s degree in nursing and doctorate in a related field preferred, with coursework in nursing, education, or administration
• Licensed as a Registered Nurse in California
• Two years teaching experience in pre- or post-licensure nursing programs
• One year experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care

Skills

• Knowledge of nursing educational program administration
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing, including nursing guidelines set by the Board of Registered Nursing
• Knowledge of curriculum development
• Knowledge of teaching and clinical practice in the nursing field
• Knowledge of current developments, trends, and complexities within nursing and healthcare
• Ability to recruit for and market an education program
• Demonstrated commitment to service in underserved communities
• Demonstrated leadership in teaching, research, and public service
• Willingness to perform and commit to extra-curricular responsibilities for the department, college, and University
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Pay

$115,000 + Administrative Y-Factor $10,000 = $125,000
