About the Role
The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure academic clinician track. Expertise is required in adaptive therapy, advanced imaging, scripting, or FLASH (ultra-high dose rate) therapy, with preference given to candidates demonstrating clinical translation of research or new technology.
Responsibilities
- Teaching and training of radiation oncology residents, medical physics residents, and medical physics graduate students.
- Supporting a full range of clinical physics activities, including linac-based radiation therapy, brachytherapy, and proton therapy at the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine and satellite facilities.
Requirements
- Ph.D. degree.
- ABR board eligibility in therapeutic radiological physics (certification preferred or expected within the first two years).
About the Department
Penn Radiation Oncology is dedicated to a three-part mission of excellence in patient care, basic and translational research, and education. The department delivers a broad range of radiation therapy services, including:
- Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)
- High-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy
- Partial breast irradiation
- Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS/SBRT using Gamma Knife/Varian Linac)
- Proton therapy at the Roberts Proton Therapy Center (the largest proton therapy facility in the USA, with four gantry treatment rooms and one fixed beam room)
Two additional proton rooms with FLASH capabilities are slated to open in mid-2027 at Pennsylvania Presbyterian Hospital. Penn is a world leader in proton FLASH research, with the first conformal FLASH clinical trial planned this year.
