Assistant Professor, Academic Clinician in Medical Physics
About the Role
The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure academic clinician track. Expertise in adaptive therapy, advanced imaging, scripting, or FLASH (ultra-high dose rate) therapy is preferred. Demonstration of clinical translation of research/new technology is essential.
Penn Radiation Oncology is dedicated to a three-part mission of excellence in patient care, basic and translational research, and the education of residents and medical students. An integral component of the Abramson Cancer Center, Penn Radiation Oncology leverages the center's full resources to deliver comprehensive care.
Penn Medicine delivers a broad range of radiation therapy services, including intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy, partial breast irradiation, stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS/SBRT using Gamma Knife/Varian Linac), and proton therapy at the Roberts Proton Therapy Center—the largest proton therapy facility in the USA. Two additional proton rooms with FLASH capabilities are slated to open in mid-2027 at Pennsylvania Presbyterian Hospital. Penn is a world leader in proton FLASH research, with the first conformal FLASH clinical trial planned this year.
Responsibilities
- Support a full range of clinical physics activities, such as linac-based radiation therapy, brachytherapy, and proton therapy at the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine and satellite facilities.
- Teach and train radiation oncology residents, medical physics residents, medical physics graduate students, and other learners.
Requirements
- Ph.D. degree.
- ABR board eligibility in therapeutic radiological physics; ABR board certification preferred or expected within the first two years.
