About the role
This position is responsible for assisting the Plant Manager in daily operations of the manufacturing facility to meet production schedules, quality, and safety goals. The role reports directly to the Plant Manager.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily production and manufacturing activities, including scheduling, processes, and supervision of production personnel.
- Assist in training, development, and support of employees to ensure they excel in their roles.
- Ensure proper collection and reporting of data to track manufacturing performance (e.g., labor efficiency, scrap reduction, deviations), identify root causes of issues, and support problem-solving efforts.
- Administer performance evaluations, development plans, and disciplinary actions while mentoring employees to address development needs.
- Ensure effective communication of plant priorities, initiatives, and performance requirements to all employees.
- Represent the plant/company during customer on-site visits and audits.
- Ensure adherence to defined SOPs and safety standards.
- Assist with identifying and implementing process improvement initiatives.
- Maintain a safe work environment through compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements and promote a strong preventative safety culture.
- Assume the Production Manager’s role as needed.
- Oversee and develop manufacturing budgets and manage expenditures, working with purchasing to ensure appropriate raw material levels and availability.
Requirements
- 2 or 4-year technical degree or equivalent work experience in a production field.
- Degree in Chemistry is desired.
- Prior experience in chemical batching/liquid filling is preferred.
- Basic computer skills (e.g., Excel, Microsoft).
- Proven track record demonstrating ability to lead people, create operational goals, and implement performance tracking systems.
- Experience in meeting production schedules, controlling and improving line efficiency.
- Strong technical knowledge of equipment.
- Ability to communicate at different levels within the organization, including the sales department.
- Knowledge of production processes, raw materials, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
