About the role
Weis Markets is seeking an Assistant Produce Manager who will promote excellent customer relations, drive continuous improvement, and support Produce operations in a fast-paced retail environment. This role requires a commitment to teamwork, associate growth, and community engagement.
Responsibilities
- Instill positive customer-focused behavior among associates; greet and assist customers professionally.
- Take customer orders in person or by phone, determine product needs, and prepare items promptly with a positive attitude.
- Ensure fresh quality merchandise through proper handling, damage control, and adherence to company standards.
- Assist the Produce Manager with daily operations including merchandising, ad execution, associate engagement, and customer service.
- Act as Produce Manager in their absence and perform related duties as assigned.
- Develop and implement merchandising plans aligned with financial goals; maintain knowledge of weekly ads and specials.
- Oversee department inventories by tracking sales reports, orders, and supplies; assist with period-end physical inventory.
- Assist with scheduling, training, performance recognition, and delegation to maximize department profits.
- Manage inventory levels, review orders, and maintain backroom organization and product storage per company guidelines.
- Oversee shelf replenishment with priority on weekly specials, seasonal items, and high-velocity products.
- Verify deliveries and invoices for accuracy; assist with unloading and transporting merchandise.
- Enforce department practices for receiving, dating, restocking, and product rotation to ensure freshness.
- Monitor product quality, break down deliveries, and control department expenses by improving operations and reducing losses.
- Ensure associates follow company recipes for prepared products and maintain accurate product logs.
- Keep the produce department well-stocked, appealing, and properly priced with correct signage.
- Unpack, clean, trim, and stock produce; maintain salad bar and cut fruit/vegetable areas as needed.
- Assist in building attractive displays and handle spoiled/damaged products according to company policy.
- Maintain backroom and receiving area security, organization, and sanitation per health and OSHA requirements.
- Utilize company-provided PPE including cut-resistant gloves, safety cutters, and company-sponsored footwear.
- Cooperate with coworkers and superiors to ensure smooth department and store function.
- May assist in other departments or oversee the Floral department in select stores.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in business or food service-related field desirable.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in management within retail, restaurant, or supermarket environments.
