Assistant Produce Manager

Position Purpose

The Assistant Produce Manager supports the Produce Manager in overseeing all aspects of produce department operations, including merchandising, inventory management, product quality, food safety, customer service, and associate development.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in managing daily produce department operations to ensure efficiency, product availability, and department readiness.
• Absorb fresh fruits, vegetables, and related products are properly stocked, rotated, and merchandised.
• Monitor product quality, freshness, and appearance to maintain company standards.
• Absorb ordering, receiving, inventory control, and shrink management activities.
• Absorb execution of promotional programs, seasonal displays, and merchandising plans.
• Maintain clean, organized, and visually appealing sales floor displays.

Customer Service

• Provide exceptional customer service and create a positive shopping experience.
• Absorb assistance with product selection, special orders, and produce-related questions.
• Address customer concerns promptly and professionally.
• Promote a customer-focused culture throughout the department.
• Absorb products are presented in a manner that encourages customer confidence and sales.

Leadership & Team Development

• Absorb assist with training, coaching, and developing produce associates.
• Provide daily direction and operational support to department team members.
• Monitor productivity and ensure adherence to department standards.
• Absorb support scheduling and staffing needs to meet operational requirements.
• Promote teamwork, accountability, and associate engagement.
• Absorb assume department leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Produce Manager.

Inventory & Quality Management

• Absorb Monitor inventory levels and assist with proper ordering to maintain in-stock conditions.
• Absorb Ensure proper product rotation utilizing First-In, First-Out (FIFO) practices.
• Absorb Minimize shrink through effective inventory management and product handling procedures.
• Absorb Monitor product receiving processes to ensure quality standards are met.
• Absorb Maintain accurate inventory and department records as required.

Food Safety & Compliance

• Absorb Ensure compliance with company food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
• Absorb Monitor proper storage, handling, and display of all produce products.
• Absorb Maintain department cleanliness and sanitation standards.
• Absorb Promote workplace safety and proper equipment operation.
• Absorb Ensure compliance with all company policies and operational procedures.

Financial Performance

• Absorb Assist in achieving departmental sales, labor, and shrink goals.
• Absorb Support labor productivity and expense control initiatives.
• Absorb Identify opportunities to improve sales, reduce waste, and increase profitability.
• Absorb Monitor department metrics and assist with implementing improvement plans.
• Absorb Contribute to overall store and department performance objectives.
