About the Role
Assist the school principal in the overall administration of instructional programs and campus-level operations. Support coordination of assigned student activities and services, and contribute to the instructional process to ensure student success. Help maintain high standards of instruction and student achievement while adhering to federal, state, and district policies.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the implementation of curricula and assessments aligned with state standards, including college and career readiness standards.
- Supervise campus operations in the principal’s absence following established guidelines.
- Share supervisory responsibility for professional staff, including teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals, and clerical personnel.
- Assist in implementing high-quality instructional practices to improve student performance.
- Help plan daily school activities, including class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
- Monitor and analyze student data to inform instructional and intervention decisions.
- Assist the principal in developing, maintaining, and using information systems to track progress.
- Support the principal in selecting, placing, and retaining effective teachers and staff.
- Coach and develop teachers and staff through individualized feedback and aligned professional development.
- Support collaborative structures and provide leadership opportunities for effective teachers and staff.
- Assist in observing employee performance, recording observations, and conducting evaluations.
- Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance and conduct follow-up investigations.
- Ensure accurate reporting of Public Education Information Systems (PEIMS) data.
- Communicate effectively and build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members.
- Adhere to the Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
- Support the principal’s vision and promote high expectations for students and staff.
- Engage families and community members in student learning.
- Encourage a safe atmosphere supporting the social, emotional, and physical well-being of staff and students.
- Develop a student discipline management system to meet behavioral and academic needs.
- Assist in developing the Campus Improvement Plan (CIP) and campus budgets based on documented program needs.
- Serve as a second appraiser for staff evaluations as needed.
- Ensure students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods and extracurricular activities.
- Conduct effective conferences with parents, students, and teachers on school-related issues.
- Monitor and plan with teachers to support appropriate instructional strategies for distance or virtual learning.
- Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing during school business hours to confer with district personnel, teachers, students, and parents.
- Participate in required meetings and conduct walk-throughs to evaluate teachers and address student and parent needs.
- Communicate with teachers, students, and parents via phone, email, apps, or video conferencing.
- Respond to correspondence from supervisors, teachers, parents, and students within one business day.
- Conduct and participate in virtual ARD, LPAC, and other required committee meetings.
- Participate in professional development activities as required by the district.
- Ensure school rules are uniformly observed and student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
- Manage textbooks and equipment, conduct inventory checks, and maintain records.
- Assist with safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
- Coordinate transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services.
- Follow established safety procedures and support district/department goals.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree.
- Texas Mid-Management/Principalship certification.
- Appropriate certifications for the evaluation of teachers.
- Three (3) years of full-time classroom teaching experience.
- Bilingual preferred, depending on campus needs.
- Thorough understanding of school operations.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to coordinate campus support operations.
Working Conditions
- Able to maintain emotional control under stress.
- Frequent standing, stooping, bending, twisting, and lifting (e.g., small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks).
- Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
- Occasional physical restraint of students to control behavior.
- Frequent prolonged or irregular hours.
- Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather).
- Exposure to noise and frequent interruptions.
- Occasional district-wide and statewide travel.
- Texas or New Mexico driver’s license; insurable by the district’s auto liability insurance carrier.
- Subject to the district’s drug and alcohol screening policy and regulation.
