About the role
This position serves as an assistant principal, supporting the principal in the development and implementation of the school program. The position may assume administrative responsibilities in the absence or disability of the principal.
Responsibilities
- Maintain daily school functions
- Supervise the use of school facilities
- Plan for the improvement of instruction, school philosophy, and policies
- Maintain discipline and implement the Student Code of Conduct
- Track referrals, evaluations, and meetings
- Coordinate emergency preparedness and crisis plans
- Evaluate and supervise staff
- Meet and confer with various stakeholders
- Ensure safe student arrivals and departures
- Support curriculum-related activities
- Maintain a healthy school environment
- Select, assign, and orient staff
- Schedule and conduct interviews
- Review and update job descriptions
- Develop, revise, and evaluate the curriculum
- Assist with budget and procurement processes
- Supervise co-curricular and athletic activities
- Approve the teaching schedule and coordinate assignments
- Provide monthly reports
- Write grants and assist with fiscal monitoring
- Manage inventories of school property
Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Three (3) years of successful, full-time experience as a teacher, supervisor, or administrator
- Postgraduate Professional Certificate with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision
Skills
- Knowledge of public school administration expectations and support activities
- Knowledge of Virginia instructional standards for grades 9-12 and best practices for student success
- Knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations, and rules related to public school administration
