Job Information
The Department of Teaching and Learning, in the School of Education and Human development, in the College of Arts, Sciences & Education at Florida International University invites applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Kinesiology/Sport and Exercise Science. This is a 9-month tenure-track position beginning Fall 2026.
Primary Responsibilities
- Publish in respected refereed scholarly journals
- Pursue external funding
- Present at academic and practitioner-based conferences
- Advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students, including with research, teaching, applied experiences, and community-engaged scholarship
- Chair and serve on dissertation committees
- Teach (face-to-face, hybrid, and/or asynchronously online) courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels
- Assist with continued curriculum development and accreditation processes
- Provide service to the program, department, college, university, community, and profession
- Collaborate with program, department, and university members
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Kinesiology, Sport and Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or closely related field at time of appointment
- Expertise in strength and conditioning, mental performance, sport psychology, sport science, exercise physiology, health and human performance, or biomechanics
- Record of scholarly activity commensurate with expectations for Assistant or Associate Professor, including publications in academic journals and procurement or pursuit of external funding
- Record of excellence in teaching in higher education contexts
- Experience in mentoring students in higher education contexts or potential to do so
- Evidence of collaboration with faculty, students, and other stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Evidence of successful applications for external funding commensurate with expectations for Assistant or Associate Professor
- Experience designing and implementing new courses
- Experience teaching in multiple modalities (i.e., face-to-face, hybrid, asynchronously online)
- Experience teaching in both the classroom and laboratory setting
- National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) Certifications and/or intent to pursue certifications such as Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Certified Performance and Sport Scientist (CPSS), or Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC)
