About the role
The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine at The University of Tennessee invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Veterinary Anesthesia at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank.
The anesthesia service provides anesthetic care for patients primarily in the small animal and large animal hospitals with occasional exotic animals. The University of Tennessee Veterinary Medical Center (VMC) is equipped with all the resources and expertise of specialty services needed to provide first-class patient care, teaching, and clinical and basic science research. The VMC has:
- A comprehensive ICU and four faculty members board certified in Veterinary Emergency Medicine and Critical Care
- A minimally invasive procedures unit and faculty members with expertise in endoscopy, laparoscopy, and stenting
- A state-of-the-art physical therapy facility including hyperbaric oxygen therapy
- Onsite stem cell development
- Excellent clinical pathology and diagnostic pathology departments
- A full-time Veterinary Social Work program offering counseling services for clients, faculty, staff, and students
- Support services in behavior and nutrition
Responsibilities
- Small and large animals’ clinical service
- Clinical and didactic teaching of anesthesia and analgesia to professional students, interns, and residents
- Development of a basic science or clinical research program commensurate with effort allocation
- Participation in continuing education at the local and national level
Requirements
- DVM or equivalent degree
- Completion of a formal residency in veterinary anesthesiology
- Certification or eligibility for certification by the American or European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia
