About the Role
Responsible for all activities associated with safely assisting in operating production machines, including setup, operation, cleanup, and recommending improvements to meet customer demand.
Responsibilities
- Work safely at all times, be aware of surroundings, and comply with Pratt Industries Safety rules and operating procedures. Help hold co-workers accountable for safety-related items.
- Participate in the Plant Safety Committee.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Processes (GMPs) and comply with Pratt Industries quality procedures and policies.
- Prevent poor quality from leaving the facility by identifying and addressing issues early in the manufacturing process.
- Assist the Machine Operator in maximizing equipment utilization by operating machinery at available capacity and speed.
- Improve setup times and reduce downtime daily.
- Identify and report mechanical concerns to the Production Supervisor, Production Manager, or Plant Mechanical Tech/Specialist.
- Maintain housekeeping and cleanliness of work areas, including break rooms, bathrooms, and refrigerators, to prevent tripping hazards.
- Assist the Machine Operator in understanding machine capability and capacity to drive efficiencies, limit waste, and minimize downtime without sacrificing quality.
- Continue learning job duties related to machine operation, downtime, setup times, and quality.
- Cross-train on other machines and positions within the plant.
- Assist the Machine Operator in completing necessary reports accurately and timely, including Production Data, Machine Operational Status, Safety Data, and Quality Data.
- Submit maintenance work order requests to supervision for needed repairs and proactively maintain equipment.
- Switch duties with co-workers as necessary.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and housekeeping.
- Adhere to the production schedule, make recommendations for optimization, and report unusual scheduling issues to the Supervisor.
- Work overtime as necessary, sometimes on short notice, including holidays.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Preferred: Prior work experience in the packaging industry (paper, plastics, converting).
- Preferred: 6 months’ experience in a manufacturing operation.
Skills
- Able to read and follow instructions, including quality and safety guidelines.
- Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
- Able to calculate figures such as percentages, measurements, volume, and rates.
- Able to apply concepts of high school math.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or graphic form.
- Ability to handle problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.
- May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, or hear.
- Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally required to sit.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
- Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
- Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
