Assistant Nurse Operations Manager - Ortho Surgical Full Time Nights

Responsibilities

  • Shared 24/7 accountability with Nursing Operations Manager
  • Participates in the recruitment and selection of new team members for the unit through interviews, peer selection, and evaluation of candidates.
  • Collaborates with the Unit/Department Nursing Operations Manager and Human Resources as indicated on corrective action, progressive discipline, and career advancement.
  • Investigates event reports and provides feedback to both Unit/Department Nursing Operations Manager and team members.
  • Oversight of schedules for the unit to ensure the proper mix of staff are available each shift to provide appropriate patient care.
  • Maintains oversight of patient flow and intervenes as indicated to achieve expected outcomes.
  • Performs Nurse Leader rounds and reviews, to identify variance from nursing best practice and regulatory or hospital standards.
  • Participates in process/quality improvement initiatives to improve outcomes and standard work.
  • Ensures the customer experience is upheld by all team members on shift and provides service recovery to patients and their families as needed.
  • Interfaces with patients and families to provide instruction, promote participation in patient care, and to coordinate nursing activities.
  • Participates and/or leads staff meetings, GEMBA board, or huddles; demonstrates ownership of unit and outcomes.
  • Performs direct patient care activities as required to meet operational needs.
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Respects the rights and privacy of others and holds staff member information in strict confidence.
  • Maintains incident reports appropriately and follows up with event reports as needed.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Expresses ideas clearly and effectively in verbal and written communication to team members and groups.
  • Advocates on behalf of the nursing staff to represent the concerns of patients, families, and staff.
  • Implements strategies that promote education, health, and safety.
  • Fosters diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrates collaborative and collegial relationship skills, engages staff in decision-making, and exhibits effective conflict resolution skills.
  • Role models professional behaviors and serves as a mentor to coach team members and colleagues.
  • Promote a safe working environment; support and/or coordinate any follow-up related to WPV occurrences.
  • Manages various human resources functions including recruitment/selection process, retention, supervision, coaching and productivity.
  • Aids in the clinical evaluation of team members, completes written clinical performance evaluations, and conducts timely team member assessments.
  • Ensures compliance with certifications, licenses, and required education for team members.
  • Influences team members to enhance their abilities and promote professional development.
  • Appropriately Clinical Practice Knowledge: Supports the Professional Practice Model values – clinical excellence and caring practice. Superior clinical and critical thinking skills for assigned unit/department.
  • Performance/Quality Improvement: Monitors compliance and outcomes to identify issues and trends and leads the team on process/quality improvement initiatives. Ensures practice changes are evidence-based, promote high-quality nursing practice, and are consistent with research, organization, and national standards.
  • Financial Management: Manages time and resources efficiently to maximize unit/department productivity. Promotes cost effective management of equipment and supplies.
  • Personal and Professional Accountability: Participates in activities that promote personal and professional growth and development. Maintains active membership in a professional organization. Upholds ethical standards of practice.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor in Nursing Degree (BSN).
  • Required or Bachelor in Nursing (BSN) with Graduate degree in Business or health-related field preferred.
  • Masters in Nursing (MSN), Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). Preferred.
  • 2 Years as a Registered Nurse in an acute setting. Required.
  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Florida or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). Required and Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Required.
  • May require one or more of the following certifications based on the assigned patient population:
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
    • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC)
