About the Role

Coordinates the daily operations of the nursing department, including staff scheduling, program planning, resource management, quality improvement, quality patient care, and supervision/development of staff in accordance with all professional, regulatory, and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates daily activities of the nursing department; schedules staff in conjunction with established staff-to-patient ratios and budgetary guidelines.
  • Attends management meetings and conducts department meetings to communicate information to staff.
  • Communicates with vendors to stay current with technological advances and service needs.
  • Ensures department equipment is maintained in a safe and orderly condition.
  • Maintains positive relationships with medical staff for continuous improvement of satisfaction levels.
  • Actively promotes the service line in accordance with strategic initiatives.
  • Assures regulatory compliance and maintains competency in bedside care.
  • Provides leadership to staff in a collaborative environment that offers job satisfaction, education, empowerment, recognition, and stimulates innovative thinking.
  • Collaborates with Manager/Director to recruit, hire, orient, and train new employees.
  • Collaborates with Manager/Director to conduct annual and ongoing appraisals of employee performance.
  • Communicates job standards and expectations; leads regular meetings with employees and fosters effective communication.
  • Collaborates with department and site leadership in preparing the annual operating and capital budgets, reflecting strategic initiatives and financial goals of Mercy Health.
  • Manages services in accordance with approved budgetary guidelines.
  • Manages inventory of equipment and supplies to meet established par levels.

Requirements

  • Current nursing license in the State of Ohio.
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association (required).
  • ACLS certification encouraged (for Med Surg/Telemetry roles).
  • At least two years of clinical nursing experience in a specialty area demonstrating leadership experience (e.g., charge nurse, preceptor, shared leadership).
  • Two years of clinical nursing experience preferred; one year of previous charge nurse or shift lead experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (required).
  • Hold national certification in clinical specialty or leadership within 6 months of eligibility (preferred).
